This Little Light of Mine

...Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. Exodus 34:29

I read this last night, and it made me teary-eyed. Isn't this what we all want? To spend time with God and for even a tiny bit of His radiance to reflect off of us into the world. Moses had jut spent forty days and forty nights on Mount Sinai with the Lord before he came down with his face shining so bright he had to wear a veil to cover it.

It's a huge reminder for how important time with God is. After Jesus came, died and rose again, time with the Lord isn't limited to Moses on Mount Sinai. Jesus gave us the freedom to spend time with Him. What an amazing gift!

Are we receiving that gift or are we turning away from it? Have you ever known anyone whose light reflected their relationship with God?

  1. I can think of this woman who used to babysit my daughter. She radiated Jesus and I loved to be around her because I knew she would teach me and lift my spirits.

  2. Julie, thank you for this post! It was lovely and humbling. I've known others who shone because of their relationship with God, and it's beautiful. I've felt very distant in my relationship with Him lately and these reminders are so helpful to keep me feeling, believing, and getting on the right track. Thank you!

  3. Terri - Sounds like the perfect babysitter! What a blessing!

Cindy - Thanks, Cindy. I'm so glad to hear this verse is moving someone else like it moved me! Sometimes I forget why they refer to the Bible as the "Living Word." Then, a scripture like this knocks me over the head and reminds me. God is so good.

  4. Wow, That is awesome imagery, isn't it? I hope and pray I shine like that, but sometimes I let the stress of life steal my joy rather than truly placing it all in God's hands. I miss His presence in those moments for sure.

  8. I love this post of yours. Beautiful!

You commented on my blog, so I wanted to say thanks! (my response)
"Absolutely Julie! May the JOY continue. I love to look at it this way: At the end of November, we're ahead of the curve! Right? Of all the numerous people writing a novel right now, you will have more to work with and re-write in December than some others who are not participating. Happy Writing and thanks for your comment! ~Be blessed :)"

  10. There is a woman in our church--she's elderly but spunky. When you speak with her, she absolutely radiates Jesus. I always think that's where I want to be at her age--and NOW. :-)

  11. In there cheerful attitude, yes. Not in the form of a glow, though.

So, true, Julie, we need to give Him the time in order for Him to shine through us.

  12. I love my time with Jesus and I think the fact we can have it and as much of it as we can handle is awesome! Loved this!

  13. Communion is the one of the rewards of Christ's death. It strips me of wholeness when I don't spend time with my Maker, Redeemer, and Best Friend.

Because every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before...(that song is playing in my head).

  14. Sadly I have never even thought of that verse in that way before. Thank you for opening my eyes to a whole new way of seeing it! :)
