Simplify

About twice a year I get into a mood where I have a need to simplify my life. A few days ago I warned my husband that this urge struck again. I told him to hide all the things that he doesn’t want me to get rid of and asked him to ignore my craziness for the next few weeks.

I don’t know how it’s going to manifest itself this time. Sometimes, I feel the need to go through my house and get rid of any clutter surrounding me. Sometimes, it’s more about clearing out my schedule and my time commitments. Other times, it’s simply about looking at my priorities and refocusing on the things that are most important to me.

I’ve already organized my office at the day job. I broke out my new label maker and organized my files, but I have a feeling that this time it will take more than that.

It’s kind of like “nesting” without the pregnancy. Does anyone else do this?

  1. Yes, definitely!! If only I kept up this urge every day. Good luck with the organizing!

  2. YES! And it's so hard to describe to someone who doesn't get these urges. :)

  3. I do! I'll clean out the cabinets, closets, reorganize drawers.

Today I cleaned out my desk and moved some furniture around. :)

  4. I can so relate, Julie. In fact, I feel an organizational mood coming on. As soon as I finish my WIP I'm digging in, mucking out, and getting things in shape.

  5. I understand completely. I'm feeling over-whelmed lately and thinking I need to de-clutter by re-setting my priorities. But my closets could use a clean up too. Hope your husband got to his stuff before you did! :)

  6. I do this too! I'm actually in one of those moods right now. This week my mood is directed at my schedule. I just have a strong urge to erase everything from my calendar! :)

  7. I do a really thorough organization like that once in a while. It's funny, because I'll look at the clutter for months on end, and then finally cave. My husband is a pack rat, so I try not to let him stop to look at everything that I throw out. Otherwise, we'll only have half a trash bag filled!

  8. I can't believe I am not at home guarding my stuff.

  9. Oh, yeah! I'm thinking of all the cleaning I should do before I break out the Halloween decorations...

  10. After your done there, come on over and do my house! I live with 3 - yes 3 - messy people (one of whom is a partial hoarder)! So I've had to squelch the urge over the years to keep my sanity!

  11. I go in fits like this too, but there's no pattern to it. I'm such a hoarder myself that the family has no fear, there's enough of my own junk to ditch that I generally don't have time to get to theirs. Sad, but true!

  12. I *so* do this! And honestly, sometimes when the house is a mess and the piles of junk are getting higher and higher, I just sit back and LET THEM, because I know my "insipration" will come again and it will all get cleaned up.
