1. It’s fun to see the look you get when you tell someone you’re writing a 50,000 word novel in a month.
2. Those characters who have been talking in your head will finally have a purpose.
3. Writing fast and furious can release creative juices you never knew you had.
4. It gives you an excuse to procrastinate on things like cleaning the toilets.
5. It’s the perfect opportunity to write that weird time travel, pirate, romance novel that has been plaguing you.
6. You’ll have something to do while everyone else is taking a nap on Thanksgiving afternoon.
7. At the end of the month, you can say, “I wrote a
8. It’s a great way to get to know other crazy writers.
9. For years, you’ll know that 50,000 / 30 = 1,667 (because that will be your daily word count goal).
10. You don’t have to edit or work on a synopsis for an entire month.
Have you ever participated in NaNoWriMo? Do you plan to in the future?
Funny! 7&9 totally cracked me up :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time!! I just heard about it two weeks ago and I jumped in. This is so crazy, but I'm really excited!!
ReplyDeleteNope, never have participated. Don't know if I want to! lol But hope you have fun. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have and it is great! Loved the whole experience!
ReplyDelete#9 was terrific! :)
I did it last year and loved it! I felt such a great sense of community with other writers and when it was over, I felt like I had accomplished something HUGE. I'm not doing it this year, but I definitely will do it again.
ReplyDeleteLove your list! Go NaNo! :-)
I've never participated, but I think I'd like to sometime...It sounds fun! Unfortunately it won't be this year since I'm busy with rewrites, but maybe the timing will work out perfect to do it next year?
ReplyDeleteI totally want to do it! But I want to do it when I know I won't fail...not sure if that is now or not. :)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite is #5. Maybe I should write that wierd, paranormal, alien-invaded romance I've been thinking about it! I am going to try NaNo this year, but quietly and personally. I know the point is also to connect with other writers doing the challenge however, to get writing done I need to shut off the social networking which will be the hardest part for me!
ReplyDeleteHAHA! Loved these! I've participated in 2009, but I'm busy with revisions this year... maybe I'll do a half-NaNo during the second half of the month. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteI love your 7. At the end of the month, you can say, “I wrote a good book!”
ReplyDeleteWhen you cut and paste the good doesn't come crossed out. But it sure isn't good, at least all the one's I've done haven't been by the end of it. But they are a good base to work from!!
Good luck, Julie!!
Ha!! Loved 6,7, and 9!!!
ReplyDeleteBut no, have not participated. But man, you make it sound fun!
This is a funny post! And no, I've never participated, but I've seen it all over the blogosphere - even on a sign at my local library!
ReplyDeleteBTW: I hope your new novel is going well!
Many thanks, too, for stopping by my blog! It's great to see you!
Yay, Julie. We can cheer each other on!
ReplyDeleteNumber 11 - When your husband is away hunting you can tell him you wrote a book in a month while all he did was sit on his butt waiting for deer to show up.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll start killing off characters just so I can say that I killed more than you. It could be a competition. :)
ReplyDeleteI cheer from the sidelines and participate in PiBoIdMo instead! (picture book idea month)
